How To Repel Mosquitos the Natural Way

Why Is Natural Bug Repellent the Better Choice?

I don’t know what the weather is like everywhere, but here in Texas things are getting warmer and greener which leads to ALL. THE. BUGS. In the past this time of year has left me in a tricky situation. My kids would always want to go out and enjoy this B E A U-TIFUL weather, (& soak up some much needed vitamin D after the cold months) but I didn’t want them getting eaten up by swarms of mosquitos. As many other young new moms have done, I once made the mistake (or blessing?) of googling the ingredients on the back of my daughter’s bug spray can. *GASP* As shocked as I am sure you are going to be, I was horrified with what I was reading.

Our skin is our largest organ and is the first line of defense in protecting our bodies. Everything that we put onto our skin is ultimately absorbed into our body. Clinical studies have shown that it can take as little as 15-30 seconds for a substance applied to your skin to enter into your blood stream. Yet, how many times have you grabbed a product off the shelf and slathered in all over your skin without ever looking at the ingredients? I bet you too would be shocked to find out what some of your favorite go to products contain. Now, don’t get me wrong. I am NO WHERE NEAR PERFECT. But I have made it a point to be actively aware of what products I allow myself and my family to use and I try to make better decisions every chance I get. My go to rule of thumb is if a product contains a chemical you would feel wrong ingesting, you probably shouldn’t be soaking it in through your skin either.

This mantra is what led me into researching safer and cleaner ingredients I could use to make my own bug repellent that wouldn’t make me shriek when I read the ingredients. Luckily, I no longer have to stress about letting my kiddos run some energy out in the backyard after dinner. We just spritz some of our natural bug repellent on and head outside. No nasty chemicals, no harsh smell, and better yet…no mosquitos bites. Everyone is happy!

How does it work?

After quite a bit of research and trial and error testing we have come up with a formula that uses all naturally derived ingredients to keep those pesky bugs away. The active ingredient in our repellent is Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus, which has been approved by the CDC as an effective ingredient to repel mosquitos. This oil is derived from the leaves of lemon eucalyptus trees. There have been several studies done comparing a wide variety of natural insect repellents and over and over it has shown that formulas including oil of lemon eucalyptus were the only ones to perform the same as leading bug sprays such as DEET. Our repellent also has a fresh & clean scent so you don’t have to walk around smelling like a walking pesticide. BONUS!!!

Directions for use:

You will want to shake the bottle generously each time before application. Some natural separation is normal. Everything will mix back up well. Spray liberally all over the body, being careful not to get any in your mouth or eyes, and then head outside and enjoy your time. Reapply as needed.

So, moral of the story. You can now rest easy knowing that there ARE better & safer options out there to keep the mosquitos away without having to fill your pores with harsh chemicals that get absorbed directly into your blood stream. I know you have enough on your plate to worry about, let me help take bug-bites and stressing about how to prevent them off the plate. Being able to provide a little peace of mind makes me so happy. Now go spritz yourself down with our Natural Insect Repellent & go enjoy the outdoors with your little ones! You deserve it.
